Evidence-led field guide
WhatsApp templates, consent, and costs
Govern service-window replies, approved templates, customer consent, opt-outs, Meta billing, operational automations, and AI-assisted drafts.
A configured connection does not grant permission to message every contact. The tenant remains accountable for lawful purpose, accurate contact data, clear opt-in, honored opt-outs, appropriate templates, employee authorization, and current Meta policy.
Service conversations and templates
Meta defines when a normal reply is permitted after a customer message and when an approved template is required. Treat the current Meta documentation and account state as the source of truth. Do not design an automation around a remembered time window or an assumed template category.
Template lifecycle
Prepare the intended purpose, audience, variables, sample values, language, owner, and opt-out behavior. Meta may approve, reject, pause, or disable a template. A Balaawi status display is operational guidance, while the current Meta account and policy remain authoritative.
Consent and opt-out
- Capture clear consent for the message type and channel.
- Retain when, where, and how consent was collected.
- Avoid purchased or scraped contact lists.
- Make opt-out understandable and act on it promptly.
- Keep consent and suppression records scoped to the owning tenant.
- Review applicable privacy and communications law with qualified counsel.
Costs and billing
Meta pricing can vary by message category, recipient market, and current policy. The tenant normally maintains its Meta payment method. Any Balaawi module, implementation, support, or automation fee is separate. Meta's current pricing material and billing dashboard are the source of truth for Meta charges.
Automations and AI-assisted drafts
An ERP event may prepare a transactional message only after the tenant approves the rule, template, recipients, consent checks, permissions, error handling, and stop condition. AI can assist with a draft, but the default control is authorized human review before sending. Autonomous sending requires a separately reviewed policy and acceptance record.
Questions teams ask next
What is a WhatsApp message template?
It is a structured message reviewed through Meta for eligible business-initiated communication. Its current approval state and policy category matter at send time.
Do customers need to opt in?
Business-initiated messaging requires an appropriate lawful basis and clear channel-specific consent under the policies and laws that apply to the tenant.
Who pays Meta messaging charges?
The tenant normally pays Meta through its own business account and payment method. Balaawi fees, if agreed, are separate.
Can AI reply automatically?
The prepared design defaults to a human-reviewed draft. Autonomous sending is unavailable unless a separate automation policy and acceptance process explicitly authorize it.
